A Matryoshka Moment

I can't believe I've lived in this house for exactly 4 months and have not yet thought to unpack my Russian tchotchkes. Among these is my Matryoshka doll. I got it from a local artisan in Chita, and I chose this one specifically for the way it embodies my Russian experience: the colors, red and gold, and the musical instruments that I had seen and heard during the folk dance group performance.
Welcome home my little babushkas.

  1. Your blog is great! I'm subscribing on my Google Reader right now! I tried to catch up a little bit with some of the posts on top and enjoyed how your posts seemed to be a mix of very well-written tea reviews, interesting history, and pieces from a novel that you're writing. A nice variety that I'm sure makes for a nice daily read with some tea! From just reading the recent posts, there seems to be a Russian theme. I was wondering if you have Russian heritage, have a passion for Russian culture, or were perhaps just exporing the theme for your writing - or perhaps a little of all three?

  2. Thank you!I appreciate the compliment! My current Russian obsession is mostly a result of my research for my writing. I had the good fortune of visiting Siberia in the mid-90's and found it to be a fascinating place and people. I have no Russian heritage, but my sister-in-law's family coincidentally has roots in that particular region. I welcome feedback as I muddle through my ideas, so I look forward to more of your comments!
